Many of us already know about listening to Concord Police scanner conversations online. I was wondering what else could be found in the area and came across the Concord Buchanan Airfields radio traffic. The Buchanan Airfield scanner can be listened to a few different ways, either through a flash player online or even through applications like Windows Media Player. There are many other air traffic control stations to listen to all over the country listed on this site. Concord may not be the most exciting airport to listen to but you never know when an other low flying plane of Concord might show itself again.

I have had a Facebook profile for a few months. I have the link on the right sidebar but other than that I haven't said much about it. I feel like I live on Facebook. I communicate with most of my frinds and family from there. Well..that and Twitter. I set up the fan page for the Mayor of Concord to share local news with people on Facebook that may not have heard about this site. Why a fan page? Part of the reason was just to expand the reach of the site. I was only posting links to my blog then realized I could do even more than that and share other local stories from new sites and other local blogs. I think that doing this gives my 'fans' interesting stuff to read even if it's not on this blog. You can contribute. In 1991 Jaycee Lee Dugard was kidnapped in Lake Tahoe. After 18 years missing, a woman claiming to be Jaycee Lee Dugard walked into the Antioch Police Dept and identified herself as the missing child. The Antioch police moved the woman to the Concord Police Dept to talk with local FBI agents and they called Jaycee Lee Dugard's parents. During that conversation, FBI agents told the parents that they “had Jaycee and the people responsible,” according to her husband. The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department is planning a Thursday morning press conference to discuss the case. There are several similarities to another high-profile case, the abduction of Elizabeth Smart in Utah. I wonder how close to the missing persons poster Jaycee Lee Dugard will look? When ever I hear about a missing child and days or weeks go by without any news or sightings, I start thinking the worst. If this is Jaycee Lee Dugard then it will really be a miracle for this family that was holding out hope for so long.

Look at these pictures of the old Concord Police dept. Looks like these pictures were taken in front of the old Police HQ on Parkside Dr. I'm assuming these pictures must be from the 60's or 70's based on the patrol cars. Does anyone know what the difference is between the two motor cops helmets are? There must be a reason why most are wearing white helmets and one guy is wearing a darker one. Maybe its a rank thing?

I had to read this email from a reader a few times to make sure I wasn't missing anything. The email explained how a single Concord family has become the victim of numerous crimes in just the span of a few days. The message starts off with a strong statement. It's been a while since the last movie contest. When I gave away tickets to the Watchmen the response was great. The governor met with members of the Department of Veterans Affairs and State National Guard leaders to announce the "Network of Care for Veterans" website. The site covers social services, medical services, education and employment opportunities in the veterans' local communities. Governor Schwarzenegger says our veterans need help. Veterans can get employment, mental health and other support resources right from the site. The website is available for California veterans, active military personnel, and their families if they need it.

There are only a handful of events that Concord puts on that I really enjoy. One of them is the upcoming KidFest. This entire event is for the kids and when I was a little Mayor my father would take me here to run wild. Bay Area KidFest, is a fun and educational event for children and their families. KidFest is held annually in Todos Santos Plaza, downtown Concord, California on Memorial Day Weekend.The event both entertains and educates through hands-on exhibits, a wide variety of entertainment (music, dance, animals) and educational activities including: Arts & Sciences, Environmental Awareness, Health & Safety, Sports & Adventure and Citizenship & Community. Measure D is going to be in the upcoming Special Election. On May 19th, 2009 voters in MDUSD will vote on Measure D, a $99 school funding measure to provide the district with an estimated $7 million annually in reliable, local funding for students, teachers and quality education. This will be money the state cannot take away to fix its budget problems. The measure needs two-thirds voter approval. The board has voted on a priority list of items to be restored, starting with the most recent reductions including funding for high school sports, librarians, 4th grade music, VP's, custodians, etc. Seems like every block has a "YES ON D" lawn sign. Taxes are high enough and our favorite Governor Terminator has decided that increasing our taxes even more is absolutely needed to save the State. Does raising our taxes even more to put into a school system that has been sliding down hill for years make sense? It seems like a raw deal but instead of just looking at the financial aspects of Measure D, what are the moral implications? Growing up my parents wanted to get me out of the house as much as possible during the summer break. Keeping me at home while I ran around the house being a typical kid was not going to add to my parents sanity. So to give them a break they would send me away to grandmas or Camp Concord. Some years it was both. I wasn't aware that the YMCA had camps locally so I thought it would be good to spread that around to the rest of us uninformed. The Mt. CONCORD — A man suspected of robbing banks throughout the area was arrested Wednesday in Pismo Beach in an unrelated fraud investigation, authorities said. Keith Hubbs, 29, was wanted by the FBI in connection with bank robberies in Colorado, before he made his way to Northern California. His last listed address was in Colorado, Concord police Detective David Ishikawa said. "We did confirm he is our bank robber," Ishikawa said. Locally, Hubbs was wanted in connection with bank robberies in Oakley, Concord, Burlingame and Stockton. During each robbery, the suspect boldly showed his face and neck tattoos while passing notes demanding money. He wore hoop earrings and a baseball cap or bandana at each robbery. "(Pismo Beach police) got the baseball cap and other good evidence," Ishikawa said. Bank Robbery CONCORD, CA (April 22, 2009): The Concord Police Department in coordination with the FBI is investigating a bank robbery that occurred on Tuesday – April 21, 2009 at the Guaranty Bank – 5100 Clayton Road, Concord. The suspect pictured below entered the Guaranty Bank at approximately 10:23 am on Tuesday and presented a demand note for money from the teller. He also threatened that he was armed with a gun although a weapon was not brandished or seen. He fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money. No one in the bank was injured. The suspect is described as a White male adult in his mid 20’s, approximately 5’8” tall and 160 to 170 lbs. He has short brown hair, is clean shaven and has tattoos on his neck. He was wearing a grey / blue long sleeve hooded sweat shirt; a dark colored baseball cap turned backwards and tan colored short pants. An 'anonymous' email came in with this story about BART getting fined for the death of James Strickland back in October. The state Division of Occupational Safety and Health this week issued $28,685 in penalties against BART for alleged safety violations related to the death of an employee who was killed on the tracks in October. BART is appealing the Cal/OSHA citations on the grounds that some of the laws BART allegedly violated may not apply to the transit agency. James Strickland, 44, was struck and killed by a Pittsburg/Bay Point-bound BART train as he walked along the tracks parallel to David Avenue in Concord the morning of Oct. 14. Trains were single-tracking through the area that morning to make way for routine maintenance, and the train that struck Strickland was traveling north on the southbound tracks. On the day of the accident, Strickland and another BART employee, both structures inspectors, were assigned to perform an inspection between Oak Grove and Bancroft roads, according to an accident report completed by BART safety investigators last month.
