One dead in East Oakland shooting

OAKLAND — Police were investigating a fatal shooting Monday afternoon in East Oakland, authorities said.

Around 4:40 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1400 block of 48th Avenue in the city’s Melrose neighborhood, an Oakland police officer said.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers had no motive or suspects in custody. Investigators blocked off 48th Avenue at International Boulevard and Bancroft Avenue for a period of time to allow for evidence collection and scene processing.

For information leading to the arrest of a suspect, police are offering up to $10,000 in the shooting. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3426 or Crime Stoppers of Oakland at 510-777-8572.
