Motorcyclist dies when he falls and is hit by companion

LA HONDA — A motorcyclist died on La Honda Road on Saturday afternoon after skidding out on wet pavement, falling off, then being struck by one of his two companions riding behind him, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim, identified only as a Santa Clara man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash was reported around 1:45 p.m. on eastbound La Honda Road (Highway 84), just west of Skyline Boulevard above Woodside.

The CHP had originally called the accident a “solo crash” but after investigation Saturday afternoon updated the information.

In a news release, CHP Officer Art Montiel said that the three motorcyclists were headed east on La Honda Road when the victim, leading the trio, lost control on a wet curve.

“That rider hit the pavement. The bike itself went into the opposite lane, striking a westbound white van,” Montiel said. “The downed motorcyclist was then hit by one of the other motorcyclists.”

The accident remains under investigation, Montiel said.
