Friends book sale
The Friends of the Sunnyvale Public Library are holding a book sale Nov. 16-17, with deals on thousands of books, movies and CDs. Proceeds support library programs and services.
The Saturday sale runs 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the program room of the library, 665 W. Olive Ave. Friends members can start shopping at 9 a.m., and memberships are available at the sale for $10 per year. Lifetime memberships are $200.
All Sunday sales are bag sales. Purchase a bag for $5 and fill it with what fits. Bag sale hours are noon-3 p.m.
The Monday prior to the book sale, Nov. 11, the library will be closed for a staff development day.
An Oct. 21 DreamMakers Dinner raised nearly $850,000 to support the Silicon Valley Education Foundation and its programs like Elevate [Math] and Catalyst to College.
Dr. José Moreno Hernández, the 2019 DreamMaker Award-winner, shared his journey from working alongside his family in the fields of California to attending STEM support programs such as those offered by the foundation to becoming the first Hispanic-American chosen by NASA to travel into space.
The foundation’s College Mentor, Teacher and Students of the Year were also honored, along with local businesses that donate time and talent to its educational programs.
