The San Francisco Chronicle photography department received more than a dozen awards in the National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism contest, one of the country’s preeminent pictures competitions.
This is one of only two competitions in which newspaper photo editors compete. The Chronicle’s photography editor, Nicole Frugé, took top prize in the category of newspaper picture editor of the year.
The paper also won first place in the individual front page and multiple-page documentary/photojournalism project categories for work done to highlight the devastating impact of the Wine Country fires.
