Man killed in Oakland traffic collision

OAKLAND — A man was killed and two other people injured in a two-vehicle collision early Thursday in East Oakland, police said.

An initial report was that the driver of one of the vehicles fled the scene after the wreck.

The name of the man who died has not been released.

The deadly wreck happened about 2:28 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of 98th and Bancroft avenues.

It was not immediately known if the man killed was driving one of the vehicles. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said a passenger from each vehicle was taken to a hospital with injuries. The intersection remained closed for several hours while police investigated.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact traffic investigators at  510-777-8570.
