CONCORD — A 60-year-old Concord man riding his bike died early Wednesday after being hit by a pickup truck, police said.
The fatal collision happened around 12:05 a.m. while both the bicyclist and truck driver were going south on San Miguel Road near Systron Drive, police said. The driver of the pickup truck, a 57-year-old Antioch man, notified 911 and cooperated with police at the scene. He was not injured.
Police did not identify the bicyclist immediately, pending notification of his relatives. Officers pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Investigators have not determined why the truck hit the bicyclist, but they do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved. They shut down San Miguel Road for about three-tenths of a mile between Systron Drive and the entrance to 1080 San Miguel Road for about 3 1/2 hours.
Police encouraged anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call 925-671-5097.
