Your Independence Day Fireworks Suck

I have nothing against the holiday. It’s actually one of my favorite long weekends. Eating BBQ, drinking some beers and hanging out with friends is really the order of the day. Everything leads up to the setting of the sun and a chance to watch a show that only comes around once a year. No I’m not talking about the Singing Flag. I’m referring to the colorful explosions that fill the sky.

Fireworks are awesome. Let me rephrase that, fireworks are awesome when they are used by professionals. Going into your front yard or in the middle of the street and blowing stuff up is not cool. I’d be interested to get the number of fires started in the city over the weekend by fireworks. Listening to the police scanner, I already know of 3.
I don’t care so much about the big explosions. If you want to risk losing a few fingers then fine by me. It makes you easier to identify later. What I don’t understand or appreciate are the bottle rockets and other projectiles you shoot off. Listening to these fire over the house or just into the air pisses me off. You’re not just endangering yourself, you’re endangering everyone around you. Next year I may find out who the culprits are and lob a few mini mortars towards their house and see if it bothers them.
Happy Independence Day. Stay safe and don’t burn down my house.

wow – idiots that shoot their guns in the air isn’t a problem, but people using fireworks is a problem – messed up priorities!
One of the biggest reasons you see the fires is because people sneak around the laws to use the fireworks, so they wind up out in dry areas. If they could do them legally and supervised, you would probably get rid of most of the fires. But there will always be some idiots – you can’t change that no matter how many laws and bans you pass.
Yes – lost a finger? It does make them easier to spot. And fine. They will learn, or not. What gives you the right to tell them that they can’t risk THEIR OWN fingers if I want to? Going to ban saws and knives next? Stay out of my personal life, I’ll stay out of yours. Allow legal fireworks, and focus on reporting the ones using them irresponsibly. ANd if you are that worried about a stray firework setting your yard/house on fire, maybe we need to have the FD come by and do an inspection – as you probably aren’t up to fire code. Old saying – take care of your own house before trying to fix others’.

Your crazy.
“One of the biggest reasons you see the fires is because people sneak around the laws to use the fireworks, so they wind up out in dry areas. If they could do them legally and supervised, you would probably get rid of most of the fires.”
Let’s supervise kids lighting the equivalent of a half stick of TNT in front of a bunch of houses. I haven’t heard anything so ridiculous in my life.
He never said he was against people losing their fingers if they wanted. I think he was actually hoping for it.
As for the asinine comment about ‘take care of your own house before trying to fix others’ I had a 2 year old up half the night from all the fireworks and I don’t appreciate that either. Its a matter of respect in a community and thats one of those things I think has been lost in this city for several years.
I really like it when people post comments that make them sound dumb.

This 4th was the worst. The number of gunshots within a block of my house was well over a 100. Explosions rocked my house as well. People were totally out of control. Is it the poor economy?

The thought of gun shots never crossed my mind. I guess in some Concord neighborhoods that would be more normal than others. It sucks that anyone would have to live in an area like that.
