Where to Get Car Repairs in Concord

A good mechanic is worth their weight in gold. At least that’s what my dad used to tell me. Unless you know how to do the general maintenance on your own car you are going to have to bring it in someplace for oil changes and tune-ups. Truth is, knowing of a good place for car repairs is very useful information. As a person that doesn’t know a whole lot about cars, it would be easy for a mechanic to mislead me or charge more for something I needed. When you car breaks down, you should have a reliable car repair shop that you can trust to do the job right.

Taking the Car to the Doctor

My check engine light has been on for about a month. I know what the problem is. I found out when I went in for my last tune up a couple months ago. My catalytic converter was bad and I would need to get a new one. My trusty mechanic explained to me that it would be a little pricey but I could hold off for a bit if I needed to. Since it was time for my SMOG  check too, I made an appointment and brought it in yesterday morning with the expectation it would be worked on. I was told he would run the SMOG and see if it passed or not, if not then he would work on the catalytic converter, since that would be the only reason it would fail. In the end, I expected too much.

I called after lunch for an update and there wasn’t one. “We haven’t had a chance to look at it”. At 4PM I called again and ‘the tests hadn’t come in yet’. (Maybe I was annoying the guy but I just wanted to know what was happening) The mechanic called me around 5:30 and said he had the results. He told me that my catalytic converter needed to be replaced.

I just about fell out of my chair. Was he really calling me to tell me something we both have known for months? I asked if the SMOG was completed, he said they hadn’t even checked. So, they’ve had my car all day and all they have is information we both have known for months. Even better is that the parts have to be delivered and it could be a few days. I’m not happy.

I don’t just drop my car off without notice. I called to make an appointment with the same person I always work with, he understood what I wanted to get fixed. If a part was needed and he knew it had to be ordered, couldn’t we just have made the appointment for a few days from now?!?

Concord Car Repair Recommendation

So, instead of writing about some story in Concord, I’m making a post asking for some help. I want to know what car repair places in the area you use and might want to recommend to me.

I’d prefer a place in Concord but feel free to let me know what repair shops you use in the surrounding area if they are a place you REALLY like to use.

Thanks for the help.

I have a friend that does most of my car repair work, he does mobile service and repairs. Robert Haisma at The Pit Crew, their web site is http://thepitcrew.us/v5/ Their phone numbers are 866.748.7691 Toll-Free 925.288.1767 Local. If you call tell them Tom T. referred you…;.) I don’t get anything from it, but it’s nice for them to know how you heard of them.

    DrDuran’s last blog post..I know it’s a bit late for the 4th of July, but I love…

    ACME Automotive / K&S Automotive

Great place if you need to have some work done, HONEST, FAST, NO BS. Very polite and professional. I’ve been using them for years, never had a bad experience.
They’ll let you know if they spot any other problems you should know about. What to watch out for in the future, and what you don’t need to worry about. They’ll give you all the options and their recommendation. They don’t always recommend the most expensive option. They’ll even let you know if your car doesn’t need to be repaired.
No Pressure. I have no other connection to this company other than having my vehicles repaired, and receive no compensation for this recommendation. This is a safe place to send your mother to have her car repaired.

That guy is a scam artist. It is not legal to pass a smog test if the check engine light is indicating cat failure no matter what the test results. Run somewhere else for sure. Karden in Walnut Creek has been good for me, including replacing the engine in my Cherokee.

  6. Kevin Jones Says:

Acme Automotive / K&S Automotive is located behind the Arco station near the Concord BART Station.

Thanks for all the referrals. I’m calling around.

Jojo, I misunderstood. the mechanic wasn’t sure if the cats were dead or just malfunctioning. turns out they are dead and you are right. No way to smog if they are dead

We go to Quality Auto on Monument, they are very affordable and have done things in the past for us for free. Great people, very honest.

We live in Concord but we ALWAYS go to Reliance Auto Service in Bay Point. It is worth the drive, and even worth taking a trip to a part of town I’d never go to otherwise. They used to have a shop on Sixth Street/Willow Pass at what is now the Chevron, but they moved to have a bigger shop. They are very honest and very affordable. Also, you get very personal service, as it is a husband and wife who run the company together. So it’s always the same people and they know you by name. If we have to drop our car there we like to stop at Bens Burger down the street, yum!

I have used the 76 Union station on Monument and Meadow Lane for decades.
I have also heard good things about D&H also on Monument.

  11. Lake Forest Joe Says:

The only time you are required to return to the dealer is for warranty repairs and recalls. Even then, you may have those repairs done at any repair facility, but the vehicle manufacturer will not cover the cost.

  12. ANON Says:

We have been taking our cars to AA Automotive (in Concord) for years now. Chad Menconi, the owner & repairman, is a great guy. He’s honest, reliable, and quick. Check it out!

  13. Sinn Feiner Says:

Toyotapro off of Concord Ave. has been really good to me over the years. Been doing business with them since they opened up.

  14. ANON Says:

    B & C Auto Care & Tire Center… Is a great shop that recently moved to 4746 Clayton Road (925) 676-4366.

I went to 2-dealers and 3 other shops (Including ToyotaPro – which I don’t recommend) to try and figure out what was wrong with my car. Pete Rasmussen (Owner) wouldn’t charge me until he found the problem and didn’t give up until the mystery was solved. Now my car is safe and has never handled better. This shop is reliable, provides excellent service and I trust them. Thanks Pete & Stephanie!

    Hi
Yes it is a mine field when it comes to car repair,I have a mate who charges me great rates to do my repairs, but he is limited when it comes to newer cars as he doesn`t have the proper machines when it comes to things like engine management lights coming on.My daughters engine management light has just come on and it`s going to cost her £90 just to have it checked out to see what the problem is,and you just can`t trust big companies to tell you thr truth,I know for a fact
that one of the big garrages here in the UK are ripping peole off left and right when it comes to this type of work.Sorry I can`t help you with a local garrage in your area,
    keep us posted.

    best Mike.

B & C Auto Care And Tire Center-4746 Clayton Road in Concord-925-676-4366. Ask for Pete or Stephanie.
My Automotive Repair shop diagnosis the check engine light free of charge. They scan the car for free, tell you what is wrong and then give you an estimate on how much to fix it. I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a honest and reliable mechanic. It is a family owned business and they are great. They are very friendly and competitive on their prices.
    Try them out.
