What Happens To Our Schools Now?

With the defeat of Measure D and other tax increasing measures meant to stimulate our schools, what happens next? The easy answer is that our kids will suffer by having class sizes increase, programs cut and a general deemphasis on education. That’s what I think. The people have spoken and though I wish we had found a way to bring more money into the MDUSD, it was not meant to be.
It’s always the easy answer to raise taxes to increase service levels but like so many people wondered, when are there too many taxes? When will the Government start learning to spend less or make the budgets work? I was watching the local news the other night and a lady being interviewed said it best. “If Californians ran their finances the way the Govt does then we would all be bankrupt.”
Should we blame the people in Contra Costa County for not voting in favor of Measure D to protect the schools? I don’t think so. I wish more people would have taken the time to go to the polls and actually vote though. The voter turn out was just short of 29%. That shows that the passion was not there for most of the community to make any changes to the situation.

One of the outspoken people in our community about education is Mister Writer and he had this to say:
Education will suffer, no matter the results. And for that most people are in agreement that the system needs to be changed. A total restructure of the goal and the financing of education in order to give our kids a chance to be leaders and not followers in the global economy.
I tend to agree with this statement. I think the only real solution to this problem is not finding a way to add money to the system, its a complete evaluation of the system and drastic changes being made.More money is going to be pulled from the district and deeper cuts are going to be made in the coming moneths. All we can do as a community is stand by and watch until an opportunity arises to take a stand.

I think it is to late. Thanks to the police and fireman. The Kids have no school. Lets just hope no more cops get killed because that only cost us tax payers about $250,000 in police pay. That is what we had to pay all the police to go to Oakland that day. I bet if they did not get paid we would have only seen about 1000 cops. But its OK its only money. THAT WE DON’T $#@% HAVE.

The schools are screwed. I have liven in Concord most of my life and I get the feeling this city is becoming more and more like Richmond every year.Granted we dont have the crime but will all the cuts to our city band district budgets, it’s only a matter of time.
