Really Old Canon in Concord Front Yard
Categories: Focus on Concord
Written By: Mayor Concord California
In my travels today, I drove by a house in Concord, I had completely forgotten about. On a side street in Holbrook Heights, there is a house that has some very interesting lawn decorations. Some people like to have lawn art like flamingos or even gnomes but this home owner takes it to a new level.
In this lawn is an old rusty military canon. He also has some other artillery type decorations in the yard but I didn’t get a picture of them. I remember as a kid when I lived in the neighborhood walking by this house and wondering how they came in to possession of these artifacts from history. The yard is a bit overgrown but the canon is still very prominent in the yard. Anyone know the story behind this guy and his cannons?

Thats a big canon. I wonder if the city ever had an issue with it?

I’m sure it would have been. Googleing the keywords came up with NADA. The canon has been in the yard for like 20 years, I figured its been talked about before, just want to give it life. But thank you for the comment.

I went by and talked to him probably 15 years ago. If I remember right its from a submarine. He also had a big ass pice of field artillery in his carport that he was going to restore. The last time I saw it a year or more ago the same 1′ x 1′ sanded area he started 15 years ago was no bigger.

Wow. That sort of puts a whole new spin on the cranky neighbor who won’t give the ball back if it goes in to his yard!
