I just got off the phone with Theresa Harrington from the Contra Costa Times. She is putting together a story about the Mt. Diablo School District and how local blogging plays a part. It was a good call. We spoke for about 30 minutes and talked about why people read local blogs, how a local blog can get the attention from the school board, and if local blogging really makes a difference.

My thoughts are that media is so enamored with stories every day and there are much bigger stories to write about like the budget crisis that the local blogs fill the gap. The MDUSD blog covers a lot, the Monday memos give some insight but these are public officials and they have to toe the line with many issues. A local blog as no line to toe and since we have a platform to write about our opinions it makes for a great conversation.

We spent some time talking about the other blogs in Concord and discussing my thoughts on them. Over all, it was a nice conversation and I’m looking forward to the article which should be published on Sunday. Theresa is going to reach out to the other blogs in the area for the story as well. Should be a great read!

  1. ANON Says:

How many blogs are they talking to/ I haven’t seen on Claycord that they spoke with him. He’s usually the first to mention when he get’s interviewed.

  2. Brent Says:

Nice. It looks like the papers are trying to get more exposure from blogs.

  3. anon Says:

The mayor of concord wasn’t interviewed for this story. The person who claims to be the mayor of concord was. fake and lame.

  4. anon Says:

Yah, what is the deal with calling yourself the mayor of concord. concord is a real city – unlike claycord – its not cute – its really weird actually.

  5. Brent Says:

stupid. Its the name of the website. The owner of the site was interviewed. Makes complete sense. Stop whining and go troll on the other blog.

  6. John Says:

What’s with all the freaks coming here and leaving garbage comments. If you don’t like it, go back to the other site and play your games. The blog is called teh Mayor of Concord, the owner knows he isn’t the real mayor. The other blog says he’s the Mayor of a fictitious city. Which is where you belong, in fantasy land.

  7. john Says:

Don’t pay any attention to the loser anon’s. Mayor, you’re top notch and they know it. Let them go back to the other site and flick boogers at each other.

  8. ANON Says:

I don’t think it’s lame but it is a bit weird that you own the domain Mayor of Concord. It is nice to have more websites in Concord popping up.

  9. Concord Blogger Says:

LOL. I leave for an hour and I come back to all of this? Hey, I’m not going to cry over your comments and I do appreciate you taking the time to read my blog. I am not hiding who I am, I was interviewed as myself, for the Mayor of Concord website. The article is NOT about me or the site, it’s about the rise of blogs in the area and how they support the local school district.

I can’t help it if the site is growing and if the media wants to ask my thoughts on things. In fact I welcome any media outlet to contact me. I have a lot to say and one article isn’t going to cover it. Sorry that upsets some of you. All of your comments are welcome and though you don’t always leave them, I know you read the site. :)

I’m HAPPY that I don’t have a bunch of garbage comments on the blog yet. I don’t know how the other site keeps up with them. But if you have something to say, say it. I want you to ask questions, question me, question the system. That’s what the blog is about. Building a community of discussion about the news and events in the city.

Good job! We all know that Claycord inflates his numbers of visitors and you must be close to where he is. I can’t believe that he’s gotten away with lying about it for so long. It’s about time someone came on the scene and showed him what blogging really is. Not that he does a bad job but you are leaps beyond him and it shows. He’s been active for over a year and you only 6 months.

I think this site is 100% more professional and respectable than his with the racist comments and garbage he puts out. Who the F$%^ wants pictures of flowers? Just tell us whats going on and where its happening. Keep it up MoC you have a lot of support and I know you are growing so fast because you know what you are doing.

  11. Alexx Says:

I also love how Claycord will leave up racism and crap in the comments but when I actually take the time to write a real comment in his “whatever” post explaining what I think as a reader about letting all this stuff go through, he deletes it in 2 minutes. I guess I spoke too much truth about his site and he didn’t like the questions I had about his blog. Yet another reason why I know he’s a fake. I used to like his site but can’t tell you how happy I am that there is another now.

  12. MediaSlackers Says:

I’m glad your site (and other local blogs) are getting more attention. You play an important role in the community for many reasons. I think the following quote from Jay Rosen, a journalism professor at NYU and prolific blogger, sums it up nicely. He was talking with last night with Bill Moyers about how important bloggers are in the thread of mainstream journalism, albeit in Washington, but this can hold true on the local level to an even greater extent. The more sources for news there are for the public to choose from, the better the quality of ALL of the news.

“If you’re a career Washington reporter, how do you know that your knowledge is always going to be relevant throughout your career? Well, if politics is just an inside game, then you’re always on top of it. If all of a sudden, a new dynamic enters it, you may not have the knowledge you need to be the expert, to be the authority. And I think there’s a tendency for Washington journalists to see everything converging towards the political game that they are themselves masters of.”

Keep up the good work, “Mayor” and hopefully the Concord community will be better for your work.

  13. john Says:

Welcome aboard, Alex! You and I feel the same way about the other site. This site is a true community site that has great stories that are blogged about in a mature and intelligent manner.

  14. Concord Blogger Says:

Wow, it’s nice to see that the conversations continue on while I’m away from the keyboard. Alexx, thanks for the comment. It’s good to see that people are becoming more regulars here and leaving comments. I wish there was a way to see the conversation you had with claycord in the comments. It sounds interesting.

I know I have a lot of readers, I do monitor this stuff but I don’t feel like I need to share that info yet. So as I said, even with the lack of comments on the site, I do appreciate all of the people that come here to read what I write.

I don’t want to get in a discussion about Claycord. As I said in the beginning, he should be respected for what he has been doing and as much experience as I can bring to a local blog, he has definitely given me a standard to meet. Will those standards change over time? Probably. I’ve been researching other local blogs around the US and it amazes me how popular some of them are and what they do for the community. I have a lot to learn and I’m excited to make this grow.
