A man has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison after being convicted a second time of stabbing to death a Concord man with a rusty chisel.

Joshua Harvest was 17 years old in 1993 when police say he and his friends attacked 32-year-old Joel Vigil because he was sitting in a truck with a prostitute in their Bay Point neighborhood.

The attack of Vigil was so brutal that first responders thought that his head had been run over by a car, a prosecutor said. Vigil had no idea what was coming when Harvest and friends made a surprise attack. Harvest, who wielded the chisel, stole Vigil’s truck and left his body in the street.

Harvest’s defense was that he was heavily intoxicated and he did not mean to kill anyone.

* Oh Joshua, I understand. You drank too much. That makes it all better.
