Domestic Violence – Not Only the Problem of Chris Brown and Rihanna

Yes, I’ll say it. A man that beat his wife is a coward. It’s nothing new but I have seen more than a few cases of domestic violence cases making headlines in our area recently. From the murder-suicide in North Concord and others, domestic abuse is a growing problem.
I know that men are abused too but the numbers are much higher for women that are abused. What’s wrong with men that think it’s ok to beat their spouses? I mean, I’ve been mad too, sometimes so made I want to throw something but I’ve never felt the need to hit my girlfriend or wife. Hitting women is a sign of weakness. Take control of yourself and walk away from the situation.

Domestic violence (also known as domestic abuse, spousal abuse, or intimate partner violence) occurs when a family member, partner or ex-partner attempts to physically or psychologically dominate another. Domestic violence often refers to violence between spouses, or spousal abuse but can also include cohabitants and non-married intimate partners. Domestic violence occurs in all cultures; people of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexes and classes can be perpetrators of domestic violence. Domestic violence is perpetrated by both men and women.
California Statistics
- Every day three women are murdered by their intimate partners.
- 61 percent of women murdered by males where killed by husbands or male partners.
- 20 percent of teenage girls and young women have experienced some form of dating violence.
- Half of men who abuse their wives also abuse their children.
- When an intimate partner inflicted an injury upon a woman, she reported the violence to the police only 55% of the time.
- Up to 13 million children a year witness domestic violence.
- Every year, almost 6% of California’s women suffer physical injuries from domestic violence.
- Abuse in relationships exists among all classes, races and cultural groups, although women between ages 16 and 24 are nearly three times more vulnerable to intimate partner violence.
- Nearly 20% of women who went hungry because they couldn’t afford to buy food were also a victim of intimate partner violence.
- Domestic violence in the United States costs an estimated $67 billion annually.

What about all the men that are abused. Since when does a crazy wife get away with everything?

Thank you. There is no excuse for domestic abuse. It doesn’t matter if she’s a nag or swearing at you or trying to start a fight or whatever the hell–you’re a grown adult, you can be the responsible one.
Kyle: What’s with guys like you and needing to go “But what about meeeeen?” In any case, the second paragraph started with “I know guys are abused too”, and the article goes on to note that domestic abuse is perpetrated by both genders. Try reading before you start whining.

Having just attended a little round table discussion on the County Budget, it is sad that the number of case workers to handle and investigate Elder Abuse etc has been cut in half.

TMZ has a police picture of Rihanna’s injuries. It looks pretty damn bad. There is absolutely no excuse for that.

Actually I know what everybody is saying. But sometimes is really hard to leave,
I’m a mother that is been abused for about 7 years and my kids had since my boyfriend hit me so many times. the last time was on Valentines day he hit me so bad the now I’m dizzy every day and have headaches constanlty. So believe I know what physical, emotional, mentally abused is.

Sad reflection on the male’s moral fiber. If his ass was as hard against the wall for survival, and his list of Male responsibilities as big as it should be, his fists would be as busy as mine are, defending wives, daughters, and children from the real problems in life! Has his mother spoken yet? Is she too ashamed to appear in his defense? Was she beaten also? A large portion of the American community is infested with irresponsible males and poorly defined roles and men and fathers – even the President testifies to this! It is time for education and example for these otherwise good lads! Condemnation is not in order, nor harsh punishment, history has proven this futile. Mothers must learn first to respect themselves and know the law, then through expectation, transfer this sense to sons. Get the ball rolling Obama, we voted for you now DO Something for Women the world over!

Men need to control themselves and women need to leave the men that abuse them. A sad stat is that 3 out of 4 women return to their abusers. Thanks for writing this post for the community. I think Contra Costa County could use some help exposing these things.

I was abused by my loser husband and found out after I threw him out he was beating our son. I now have a 5 year restraining order against him. He cannot be near myself or the children. But here is the part that makes NO sense. The same judge who granted the restraining order ordered us to go to mediation to come up with a visitation plan. What the heck is that about. He beat my son and now he is allowed unsupervised visits with him and can take him for 2 weeks over the summer. This just seems wrong.
