Deer Valley High School Shooting

Antioch PD confirms a teenage boy was shot multiple times near Deer Valley High School this morning. No word on his condition.
Stories from witnesses claim that a car pulled up next to a group of students walking to school. One student walked up to the vehicle. The student dropped or threw down his backpack before a male in the car shot 4-5 times hitting the student at close range.
A student described the shooter’s vehicle as a black sedan with tinted windows playing loud music, occupied by a driver and passenger. It was last seen eastbound on Indian Hill Road. The school was put on lockdown shortly after the shooting.
The boy was wounded in the arm and chest, and that he was conscious and responsive when police arrived. He also said the boy was able to call his parents, and was conscious as he was flown to the hospital.
It is unknown if this was gang related but witnesses to the shooting are claiming that it was.
About an hour after the shooting the lockdown was lifted and children were able to get released to their parents. Students who’s parents were unable to pick them up must remain on campus through the rest of the day.

Im a junior at DV, and it really is not a bad school. We do have some bad kids, but not all 3000 kids are bad. The majority of the students are there to learn, and graduate, not cause problems. We have some of the top API test scores in the east bay, we get awards for our video production program, and science programs. idk, I just want people to realize that the school is really safe. The security did a great job during the lockdown, (running around campus locking the gates) I just hated the lockdown part, because, yeah it’s scary not knowing where the shooter is.

I agree with Steven. Deer Valley is not a bad school. We are known by good things like what Steven said up there. It’s not like every day there are fights and shootings.
The lockdown was quite scary and the school handled it pretty well. I just wish they had called home to let my family know (even though they already did, but still).

I’m a junior at DV as well, and it was a little scary for me because I was working in the office and then all of a sudden everyone starts going nuts that someone had been shot, and at the time I didn’t know who or where the shooter was. But Steven is right, the school is really safe. (on the inside)

I graduated last year and was there for all 4 years and i never once felt scared to be at that school. there were fights plenty of times and some reports of bomb threats and i never felt to concerned for my safety.
i dont think the teachers or Deer Valley is bad. i believe its the students who come from oakland and richmond or the kids from antioch who have this attitude that they are the shit and dont give a fuck about anyone else, that they have a hard life because they are in or from the “ghetto.”

i taught at deer valley high school for two years. It is a good school and MOST of the kids are really wonderful. However just like in life about ten percent are looking for trouble, and when they find it they bring it to school.
The thing to remember as a former teacher and parent of a deer valley student. It is one of the best schools in contra costa county. It has a dedicated staff and a well planned cirriculium. Do not be scared to come to school.

Question to the students…what was it like on campus today thursday 9-17 the day after the shooting? how many kids actually went to school? what is the administration doing to help students feel safe?
