$10,000 Dog Ransom Paid – Who’s Next?

Everyone in the Concord Ca. area has heard about Lexi the dog and the $10,000. reward Debbie Brown paid for it’s return. The dog was stolen out of the owners car in the Elephant Bar parking lot. After a few days the dog thieves contacted the owners and sent a text message showing proof of life and the deal was arraigned.
Who really cares about the stolen dog story? Is a dog really worth $10,000. I don’t have 10 Grand but I think if it came down to it I would pay a reward to get my dog back. People seem to treat their pets like members of the family and can you put a price on your family?
The owner recognized the thieves as people hanging around the Elephant Bar parking lot when they arrived. Debbie’s boyfriend paid the crooks $10,000 in cash and brought the dog home safely. Concord Police wants to find out who the thieves were but the boyfriend is not talking and keeping to their word that they do not wish to prosecute.
Is there more to this story? Claycord sent a message to the dog owners on his site.
I have a message to the owners of the dog….”you’re a bunch of idiots, and your lack of cooperation could end up really hurting somebody in the future“.
Strong words and I disagree. Should Lexi’s owners have cooperated with the Concord Police? Maybe, but thats up to them. The criminals are opportunistic thieves. Smash and grab crooks. These people are looking for a quick buck and just hit pay dirt by grabbing a 5lb hair ball and selling it back for $10,000.
Is someone going to get hurt by these two crooks? I doubt it. Unless they change their M.O. and get into the dog napping game full time or full on armed robbery, no one is in danger.
The real question I have is this. Now that Lexi and the $10,000 ransom has been plastered all over the news, are criminals going to start looking at dog-napping as a means to an end? This definitely is an option as we hear more and more of bank robberies and thefts around Concord.

Oh my god debie is such an awsome woman and if you ever met her or sweet little lexie you would understand that losing her was like losing a child. That dog goes everywhere with her they love each other as much as anyone has ever loved a dog. I would do the same if someone stole my sweet boy. I think all of you ppl that are talking trash are total A-holes and maybe someday your dog or child will get stolen and you will say to yourself MAN IF I HAD $10,000 I WOULD PAY TO GET MY BABY BACK.

It’s a bummer that they’ve talked to the press but not the police. If they wanted to keep quiet that’s fine, but the fact that they told the press that they paid the dognappers makes the situation worse. Now the idea of dognapping is more likely to pop into the heads of people who might not otherwise have thought that it would work.
