Chevron Pulling Out of Concord

One of the local Chevron gas stations I use is conveniently next to a 7-11 and a Starbucks. This gas station like most has a big sign giving the daily prices for gas and it was a consistent reminder when fuel costs were over $4.00 a gallon and now closer to $2.00. Over the past couple of days, there have been many changes being made to the station with pump closures and other work being done. At first I thought it was just general maintenance but today the real reason surfaced.

There are crews working on the station today but not to work on the gas pumps. They are pulling down every reference to Chevron that the gas station had. I spoke with one of the 7-11 employees and they said that Cheveron decide to close the pumps and now they will be managed as an independent gas station.
Chevron was making record profits over the past several years due to the rising oil prices and consumer dependence on fuel. Now with the economy in the crapper, Chevron is in a long line of Oil and Gas companies forced to make touch decisions by laying off employees and closing down gas stations to save money.
There are signs at this location on each gas pump explaining that Chevron cards will no longer be accepted. One customer walked into the 7-11 while I was there asking when all of this took place. The employee said it has been in the works for about a month and they are just now making the shift.
The worker at the 7-11 didn’t know where they were planning on getting gas moving forward and said the owner is working on getting a steady supply in from another company.

I use this gas station all the time now I’ll be going to the one on Treat and Clayton. I don’t want to put independent gas in my car. You never know what’s in it and just because it’s cheaper doesn’t mean you wont be paying for it later when your car goes into the shop with engine problems.

Wow. One day and all traces of Chevron are gone. That crew worked fast!

Business isn’t that great in concord. I haven’t been able to figure that one out. Other local cities seem to do just fine. I think it probably has something to do with the city council.
