Part of the Mayor of Concord dot Com is going to be a focus on the schools and supporting the groups of young adults within them. When I started this site, I was contacted by Mike Mueller and he asked if I would be nice enough to place a 125×125 ad on the site in promotion of the Ygnacio Valley Music Boosters event raising money for the Marching Band’s trip to Hawaii. I wanted to do that and help raise some additional money through this site. Here is a quick explanation.

Hawaiian Luau Fundraiser
The music boosters are having a luau party on Saturday, September 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shadelands Ranch Museum.

The luau is to raise money for the trip that the music students (orchestra, wind ensemble, & jazz band) will be going in March 2009.

They will be performing at the Pacific Basin Music Festival in Hawaii. This is a 501(c)(3) organization that supports the music program at Ygnacio Valley High School. Your fees and donations to this group may be tax deductible.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for students, and children under 5 are free. Price includes dinner and live entertainment. There is an additional cost for alcoholic beverages. You can buy tickets here.

Supporting and donating to events like this is what builds a community and helps some well deserving young adults on their journey. I was never in band, I had friends in the band but I have about as much musical talent as Milli Vanilli and we know how that turned out. Just look at these people, they love the YV Marching Bang. After watching this video My only question was “What’s so cool about these bus trips?!?” I don’t know but Mike told me “First rule of bus rides - don’t talk about bus rides! LOL

Donate to the Ygnacio Valley Music Boosters

There are a few ways you can help these kids pay for their trip. Even if you cannot attend the luau, there are other ways you can help.

  • Attend the luau party on Saturday, September 20, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Shadelands Ranch Museum.
  • Donate directly to them. You can donate directly from the Music boosters website.

Get something you want and still have money donated

Lets face it, we are consumers. even if money is tight, we still need to buy the things we need to get by. From groceries to Office Supplies, we all buy stuff everyday. Why not buy something and still support the Ygnacio Valley Music Boosters?

“How?” you ask. let me explain. I have set up a special promotion from Amazon that allows a percentage (4%) of every sale to be tracked and then donated. It’s not much, but it can add up.

How does it work?

Search for something on Amazon.com from this link. Anything you want. The link will bring you to a music page but you can go through the entire site from this link and find things you want.

When you click the link you will see the word “tag=yvmb-20“. Everything will be tagged with a special code “yvmb-20” and that’s how it will be tracked. As you buy diapers, books or movies, 4% of everything you buy will be added up. This is called an affiliate payment. EVERYTHING you get from this link between now and the end of the year 12/31/08 will be donated directly to the Ygnacio Valley Music Boosters. Like I said, you can attend the luau, donate directly from the Ygnacio Valley Music Boosters website or get yourself something and have a portion of your purchase go to the group supporting them on their trip to Hawaii. I will write the check for the donation amount and provide it to the school.

Amazon Associates

Anyone can sign up for an Amazon Associates account and earn money by promoting products. I am just choosing to do this to promote the Ygnacio Valley High School Marching Band.

Really, after watching that video and communicating with Mike, there is no reason why the Ygnacio Valley Marching Band should not get our support. If you have a local blog, you can set something like this up as well and help raise money for the Marching Band.

Updates on progress.

I will keep Mike updated on the money to be donated through this site and post the results regularly. I’ll start with monthly but if I see a lot of progress being made, I’ll post more often.

Lets support these kids and their program. As a community we can make a difference and you can get a DVD out of it as well. :)

Thank you for the post as well as taking it a step further with the Amazon.

I shot that video at registration this year. None of the kids knew what any of the other kids had said. Interesting about the busses, eh?

It’s a pleasure to watch that again. The underlying theme is family and a sense of belonging. These kids are special, they are all one large family and it shows.

    Thanks again!

Mike, I am happy to do it. I don’t get a ton of visitors here so I have no idea what the results will be for the Amazon deal. I have announced this to my other networks and we’ll see what happens. If I could get some exposure to this it could help a lot ,so I am trying to spread the word.

I’m curious to know how their trip went, and how successful you were with the Amazon associates program in regard to driving money for the trip? It’s great to see somebody using their blog to benefit the surrounding community. I commend you for that!
