The crime rating for Concord Ca.

Concord does not come across as a high crime city and for the most part, Concord is not. It was surprising to me when I started looking into the crime statistics of the City of Concord. This was pulled from the 2003 FBI UCR and the data is a bit out of date, I think the general numbers are relatively the same. There are a few resources available to the public that outline the crime statistics in Concord California and I wanted to highlight one of them and explain some of the data.

The FBI Uniform Crime Report

The Uniform Crime Reports (UCR) contain official data on crime that is reported to law enforcement agencies across the country who then provide the data to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). UCR focuses on index crimes, which include murder and non-negligent manslaughter, robbery, forcible rape, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny/theft, motor vehicle theft, and arson. UCR is a summary-based reporting system, with data aggregated to the city, county, state, and other geographic levels. Crime statistics are compiled from UCR data and published annually by the FBI in the Crime in the United States series. To address limitations of UCR, the FBI has developed the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) system, which is slowly being deployed by law enforcement agencies.

Violent Crime in Concord

We hear about this more often than not in mainstream media. Murders, Rape, Robbery in any capacity is a violent crime. Concord’s numbers are low by comparison to the National Average. It would be great if these numbers were lower but at only 53% of the National Average we can feel fairly safe. We still need to be aware of our surroundings even though we don’t live in Detroit.

Property Crime in Concord

What was shocking was the amount of property crimes in the City of Concord. Concord is almost at the National Average in this category falling in at 94%. What seems to topple the number is the amount of vehicle thefts in Concord. I never would have thought that Concord had so many car thefts and am very thankful I have a car alarm and a kill switch.Maybe with these numbers I need to invest in a Lojack from my dealer.

Burglary and theft are high numbers also.

Most people do not think of burglaries until they happen to you or your neighbor. Home alarms are worth their weight in gold when used properly and have connections to all doors and windows. Having a sticker or sign on the exterior of your house is also a visual deterrent to would-be burglars. Lets be honest, if I were going to find a house to break into, I would look for the easy target and any house that looked like they had a home alarm would be skipped.

Concord California based on these numbers is a fairly safe city to live in. You can look at how we rate against our city neighbors Antioch, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek.

Very good wrap-up, Concord Blogger. However, I’m currently working on an article which discusses the ineffectiveness of burglar alarms across the country and the unbelievable cost to our system they bear. So while property crime is a major concern, there are more effective remedies to this problem than duct tape.

I can tell you Concord Police is the only local agency that won’t post their crime statistics. They won’t also give arrest statistics. Crime in Concord is off the charts this and last year. Robberies in Concord will easily pass 300 this year. Concord Police have no plan to deal with it either!

yup. not to mention that the police department doesn’t report most crime. heard it from an officer himself. it’s to promote a ‘family city’ they don’t want the crime reports to tarnish concords reputation

    CONCORD CRIME STATISTICS:

To obtain crime statistics for an area or address in Concord, please call the Community Service Desk, (925) 671-3220.

You will be referred to a Community Service Officer or Specialist in the relevant district field office who can provide detailed information about the crime statistics for your area of interest, and help you interpret those statistics.

You have to call CPD for crime stat info when other agencies post it online. What are they trying to do find out who you are? I’d like to find out their arrest stats. I’ll bet they’re pathetic!!

  16. Concord Blogger Says:

I am going to contact my local field office to see what is available. Maybe they do provide all the information we would want. I am apprehensive though since I have gotten comments here and emails telling me otherwise. For example even the Concord Transcript has a difficult time getting the information they ask for.

They don’t want you to know. In fact I have called and they act so secretive about it. I asked for history in one area and they said they couldn’t give me the stats on domestics in that neighborhood. What a bunch of BS, everyone else has it posted online for the public to know. That doesn’t make me feel comfortable moving here!
I’ll have my scanner on and my gun ready if anyone comes into my house!!

  19. Ray Says:

Today is December 26, 2008. The day after Xmas. I went to Brenden to watch a movie with my best friends and my car gets broken into. My windows shattered, my glove compartment rifled through, my trunk opened and my backpack with my laptop inside taken. I just got it for Xmas and my birthday. My car was under the light right in front of the shops. I grew up in Concord and just came back to study for the bar exam- and this is what happens here? Where did I go to law school? In New Orleans! Funny huh? I didn’t get robbed or stolen from once. Heck, I studied late at night and walked home. Waved to the cops all the time. They recognized me because I was a student-attorney working on cases. I call the cops tonight when I realized my car was broken into and vandalized and I didn’t even get a response on 911. My friends (2 other girls and I) waited in the freezing cold and then her car hoping they would come take a report. We drove to the police station down the street and the doors were closed. Is this what the city has become? It’s 3:53 am on the day after Xmas and I hope things get better…but all I have is insurance claims to look forward too. What happened to my hometown? I see all of you making fun of NOLA but even a hurricane brought my spirits down like what happened tonight in Concord did. God bless you all.

I’m sorry to hear that Ray. I think thats horrible. I have to warn you though. According to the experts (Concord police), that didn’t happen. There is no crime problem here. At every turn there is a robbery or burglary. But CPD says things are better than ever!! Go figure. I compare it to Iraq before the surge. Everything’s fine. Those aren’t body bags. Believe it at your own risk. I hope you have a better 2009.
