The 5 best coffee places in Concord

I’m a big coffee drinker. Coffee is one of my vices and I know I drink too much but I don’t plan on giving it up. I start my day with a cup of joe and then get at least two refills through the day. I usually go for a coffee with a shot of espresso but if I’m going to splurge, I get myself a large nonfat mocha with no whip. I do own a coffee pot but I rarely use it. There are just too many places in Concord that make coffee that wherever I am in the city there is a place to get coffee. I’m going to give a run down of my top 5 favorite coffee shops in Concord.
5. Saxbys Coffee

This is a place I’ll get coffee when there is no other option. The inside is nice as you can see from the bathroom door, but the drinks lack any specialness.

4. Caffino

When I’m on that side of town, Caffino seems to be the only option. Ya, I guess there is a Starbucks in the area too but Caffino has a drive-thru and that makes it more convienient.

3.Panama Red Coffee Co.
Free wifi and a great atmosphere. They have some unique coffee choices which make it stand out and the staff is always attentive even when they are busy. This is a nice place to spend a lazy weekend morning reading the paper or surfing the internets.

2. Starbucks

Ok. before you hate me for making this my #2, the shear genius of the company and the fact that they are everywhere makes for a good argument. I happen to have one within a couple miles of my house with a drive-thru (address below) and if you can look beyond the amount of teens hanging out during the week, the staff is one of the best. If you happen to go to this Starbucks, I hope you have the opportunity to experiance Justin who is one of the baristas. This guy NEVER has a bad day and entertains people while they wait for their coffee.

1. Peet’s Coffee

by C. Wess Daniels
Too bad they only have one in Concord. Peet’s is by far my favorite coffee shop. From the atmosphere of the shop and the personalities of the staff, putting a Peet’s in downtown Concord was one of the best decisions the city made. So if you’re downtown walking the dog, watching a concert in Todos Santos PLaza or just hanging out, Peet’s is the best option in the area for a caffine fix. All that and they have FREE wifi!

I *STRONGLY* recommend you try Mi Officina, located on the Monument Corridor in Concord. It started out as an Internet cafe and has expanded to a full-service cafe with home-made Mexican pastries and an AMAZING Mexican chocolate mocha. A lot of their training came from Pacific Bay in Walnut Creek – my favorite coffee shop in the entire Bay Area, if not the world – so their coffee is top notch.
The owner, Atanasio, is a solid guy who is deeply involved with the immigrant community in and around Monument. Tell him I said “Hi”.

I can’t disagree more with Starbucks being #2. I hate their coffee, it tastes like burnt paper. Peet’s is the coffee place to go to and is well worth the trip to Downtown concord.
