Two Jailed, One Still Sought in Fairfield Councilman’s Murder

FAIRFIELD (KRON) — Two people are in custody, a third is still at large in connection with the death of Fairfield City Councilman Matt Garcia.

At a Saturday morning news conference, officials confirmed the arrests of 45-year old Gene Combs and 33-year old Nicole Stewart in the case.  Both are charged with murder and conspiracy.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports court documents show police think Stewart was driving a car with Combs and a third person on Silverado Drive September 1st when the third suspect got out of the vehicle and shot Councilman Garcia in the head.  The 22-year old Garcia was a crusader against gang violence but authorities aren’t yet saying if that played a role in the motive in this case.

The Chronicle reports Stewart is pregnant and due to give birth soon.

Investigators identify the third suspect as 32-year old Henry Don Williams of Fairfield.  He may also go by the names “Collie” or “Cali.”

Authorities are telling Williams’ friends and family that he should turn himself in.  The Governor, Solano County Supervisors, and the city of Fairfield are offering rewards in the case of up to $150,000.  If you know where Williams is or anything else about the case, contact Fairfield police or your local authorities.

CBS 5 is reporting that the primary witness had different accounts of the night and required additional questioning.

The unindentified suspect was described by Tarbell as a light-skinned black or Hispanic man, 5 feet 9 inches with a medium build in his late teens or early 20s – who fled the scene in a mid-90s, American model sedan after firing multiple shots.

The description was released by police earlier this week through the media, but sources said it had generated little for investigators to go on.

CBS 5 reported Thursday that electronic equipment was seized from Tarbell’s home and that she voluntarily underwent additional questioning from detectives.
