Prop 8 Will Not Go Away

Proposition 8 is the most controversial ballot measures of 2008. Before the elections I had my own thoughts of Yes or No on Prop 8. People were standing on street corners all hours of the day holding Prop 8 signs, some people had signs stolen or damaged on their property. When YES on 8 won by over half a MILLION votes the supporters of No on 8 didn’t bow their heads and walk away, they brought on a resurgence of support to continue the fight. Contra Costa County was 1 of 14 Counties in California that voted NO.

Not only are people taking to the streets in support, the online scene is also on fire with more forums and sites coming online for people to discuss their support for and against Prop 8. One of the most controversial pieces of content that has been published and republished over the web is the list of major contributors to the YES on 8 Campaign. You can see business’s that have donated big bucks to Yes on 8 and you can seact the California database of donations for YES on 8. Even local blogs are getting into the mix. A self proclaimed “Soccer Mom” that writes a blog called Crazy in Suburbia by posted the names of local residence that have donated to the YES on 8 Campaign upwards of $20,000 dollars.

Proposition 8 has moved people to boycott businesses and conduct protests in large numbers. There are specific sites that communicate where and when the next rally will be and sometimes there is only a few hours notice. Technology is helping in a large way to organize and gather larger groups than with traditional methods. The No on Proposition 8 Campaign website publishes most of the demonstrations.
It’s going to be interesting to see how all of this turns out but I suspect it’s not going to be resolved for a VERY long time.

I think they lost and should just go away. Stop whining and take it back to the courts without all the cries for attention.

You insensitive fool. Let these people stand up for what they believe in. Regardless of what you think or feel (if you do) supporters have a right to protest, demonstrate and otherwise continue the fight.

I’m glad I voted yes. The true gay community has shown it’s colors. They are a bunch of violent hoodlums. They’ve assaulted innocent people in the streets as a show of protest. I saw a video of an old woman being assaulted in Palm Springs. Her crime was carrying a cross. The gay community isn’t deserving of any respect or responsibility. They’ve shown that to the whole country.
